At Racket Ratings, we use the Glicko-2 rating system to calculate player skill levels accurately. Unlike traditional Elo, Glicko-2 introduces a "rating deviation" (RD) which measures the reliability of a player's rating.
If you haven't played in a while, your RD increases, meaning your rating will change more drastically after your next match. This ensures that active players have stable ratings while returning players can quickly reach their true skill level.
New players start in a "provisional" state for their first 10 matches. During this time, they do not appear on the main leaderboard, allowing the system to accurately gauge their skill before they are ranked against established competitors.
